Certificate in the Pilates Method 2007
Australian Pilates Method Association
This Course is undertaken as an APMA recognised certificate and includes both Theory and Practice of the Pilates Method.
This course includes 120 hrs of Theory & Application sessions, 200 hrs of supervised Clinical Practice & 150 hrs of personal practice (50 hrs of personal practice at Modern Pilates included in the course fees). This course will start in February 2007 and conclude in February 2008.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum of 50 hours personal practice
- Diploma/Degree in a related field and/or relevant prior learning
- Tertiary level Anatomy and Physiology

SUBJECT CONTENT
Theory and Application
History Philosophy and Principles -
Basic Functional and applied anatomy and physiology review
Pathology -
Brief understanding of relevant pathologies and contra indications for exercise in the Pilates method.
Assessment and Initial Programming -
Observation skills for postural and movement assessment. Understanding postural differences.
Programme Development -
Applied principles for program design.
Teaching Methodology -
Teaching and communication skills, visualisation and demonstration, use of Touch. Understanding the client-instructor relationship.

Personal Practice
Ongoing Personal Practice of the Pilates Method will include: Introduction to Pre-Pilates Mat, Traditional Mat and Reformer Trap Table and Wunda Chair exercises.
Clinical Practice
Professional practice & Ethical conduct -
standards of safe practice, guide lines for teaching clients. Business skills and basic studio manag nbement. Supervised Clinical Practice - 200 hours at an APMA recognised studio
Assessment
There will be variety of assessment and Homework tasks.
To develop teaching skills including: clear verbalisation & demonstration abilities
To create a sound understanding in the principles of the Method
To ensure safe ethical practice in the Pilates method
Completion of the course is dependent on successfully finishing all assessment tasks, the Long Case Study, written multiple choice and long exam papers, as well as a practical exam
